Paloma del Sol and Paseo del Sol are two separate 1990s-era master-planned communities in South Temecula, each with its own HOA and its own amenities. Paloma del Sol sits between Rancho California Road and Temecula Parkway and is known for its five pools and disc golf course. Paseo del Sol sits farther southeast toward the De Portola corridor, centered on a recreation center and miles of walking trails.
The names are the source of nearly all the confusion. In Spanish, paloma means "dove" and paseo means "walk" or "stroll" — both end in "del Sol," both were developed in the same era, both are in Temecula's 92592 ZIP code, and some real estate portals even lump them together into a single combined neighborhood boundary. They are not the same place, they do not share a homeowners association, and the dues you pay in one have nothing to do with the other.
Our team sells in both communities regularly, and this is one of the most common questions we field from buyers relocating to Temecula. Here is how we explain the difference.
Where Each Community Sits in Temecula
Paloma del Sol occupies the middle of suburban South Temecula, generally between Rancho California Road and Temecula Parkway (State Route 79 South). It is close to the Temecula Parkway retail corridor and a short drive from the I-15 interchange.
Paseo del Sol lies farther south and east, with its southern edge along Temecula Parkway near the gateway to the De Portola Wine Trail. That puts it closer to the wine country side of town and slightly farther from the freeway, which some buyers read as quieter and others read as a longer commute.
Both are firmly inside the City of Temecula — neither is in Murrieta, and neither is a rural or plateau community like De Luz or the Santa Rosa Plateau. If a listing description blurs those lines, check the parcel address rather than the marketing copy.
What the Amenities Actually Include
This is where the two communities genuinely diverge, and it is usually the deciding factor for families touring both in the same weekend.
Paloma del Sol is amenity-dense for its price point. The association maintains multiple pools and spas — commonly cited as five pool areas — along with lit tennis courts, basketball and volleyball courts, several parks and playgrounds, and walking trails woven between the tracts. Its most distinctive feature is a community disc golf course, which is unusual for a Temecula HOA and a real draw for families with older kids.
Paseo del Sol is organized around a central recreation center rather than pools scattered across the community. That center includes a junior Olympic pool and a wading pool plus tennis and basketball courts. The community is also known for its trail network — roughly four and a half miles of sidewalk walking trails — along with open space, multiple parks, tot lots, and equestrian trails reflecting the De Portola side of town.
The shorthand our agents use: Paloma del Sol spreads its amenities out and gives you more pools; Paseo del Sol concentrates them and gives you more trail.
Are the HOA Dues the Same?
No — they are separate associations with separate budgets, separate boards, and separate management companies. Paloma del Sol is governed by the Paloma Del Sol HOA; Paseo del Sol is governed by the Paseo del Sol Master Association. Both are generally modest relative to what they deliver in amenities, and both are in the same broad range as comparable Temecula master-planned communities.
We will not publish a dues figure here, because monthly assessments change with each budget cycle and third-party websites are frequently out of date. Ask for the current amount in writing, and read the HOA disclosure package during your contingency period. That package also tells you whether a sub-association applies to your specific tract — some homes in these communities pay a master assessment plus a smaller sub-HOA assessment, and buyers who only budget for the master figure get an unpleasant surprise at closing.
What About Property Taxes and Mello-Roos?
Special tax exposure varies parcel by parcel in Temecula, not community by community, so treat any blanket statement about a whole neighborhood with caution. The reliable move is to pull the actual tax bill for the specific address on the Riverside County Treasurer-Tax Collector's site and look at the line items below the base 1% levy.
We wrote a fuller explanation of how these special assessments work locally in our post on Mello-Roos in Temecula and which neighborhoods pay it. If two homes look identically priced in these two communities, the tax line is often what separates the real monthly payments.
Which One Is Right for You?
A few honest generalizations, with the caveat that individual homes vary more than the communities do:
- You want the most amenity per dollar and swim access close to home: tour Paloma del Sol first.
- You want walking and trail access, a quieter feel, and proximity to wine country: tour Paseo del Sol first.
- Freeway commute is your top priority: Paloma del Sol's position generally puts you closer to the I-15 on-ramps.
- You are buying for schools: both communities are served by Temecula Valley Unified School District, but attendance boundaries are assigned by address and are revised periodically. Verify the current assignment for the specific home with the district before you write an offer.
Because both were built in roughly the same era, condition matters more than community. Roofs, HVAC systems, water heaters, and original windows are all reaching the age where replacement is a live question, and that is frequently a bigger swing in true cost of ownership than the difference in HOA dues.
